Nitronaut Another year, another Kalpamantra-Malignant compilation. This one, as it turns out, is something truly special. Previous entries in this series of compilations made a very quick, often jarring, transition from dark ambient to harsher industrial and noise. Recrudescence handles this more gradually. Previous entries contained filler tracks that added little to the whole. Almost every track on Recrudescence is excellent -- and some are downright sublime. Simply put: The best compilation in years! Favorite track: Ziggurat.

iamspoonbender Kalpamantra, and Malignant get together once a year to release a magnum opus of industrial, noise, drone, electronica, fusion, etc. This is the next installment. Anyone interested in underground music must get this. Again, for five dollars, you can't go wrong. Favorite track: Lamp In Hand.

My original plan was to go through and buy individual tracks like I do with most compilation albums, but honestly there are just so many good ones that I wound up buying the whole thing. More than simple drones (though there are plenty of those, too), this album collects many of the best and most innovative dark ambient artists in one place, including many who are new to me. Seriously, if you like this kind of brooding music, just buy it. You won't regret it. Plushie Fanatic

Azathoth's two long form ambient odysseys really do capture the sense of scale, the sheer weight and size of Azathoth, the blind idiot god, who is, alas, the very ground of cosmic being.
